The BITE2P housing consists of a transmitter and a carrying case for all standard accessories and some optional extras—an all-in-one package. The BITE2 and its accessories fit into a durable case with a shoulder strap.
The device works by applying a test current across the entire battery string, then measuring the total current (AC + test current) and voltage drop of each cell/cell. It then calculates the impedance. It also measures DC resistance and connection (strap) resistance to help determine the overall condition of the entire battery's electrical path from one terminal block to the next.
The BITE2 and BITE2P receivers store readings in their internal memory. These measurements, along with other maintenance data such as ambient and reference battery temperature, and current pulsation, help determine the overall health of battery systems. Megger recommends performing impedance measurements with the BITE2 or BITE2P during battery maintenance and comparing the readings with those taken and recorded six months earlier for flooded batteries and quarterly for valve-regulated lead-acid batteries.
Unlike load testing, which requires significant downtime and repeated discharges using instruments, this method does not require battery discharge and does not affect the battery in any way compared to other technologies. With a test time of less than 20 seconds for each cell and connection, one person can easily and quickly measure the cell's DC internal resistance and connection resistance without shutting down the battery system.
