Remote I/O - Combining Two Technologies
Remote I/O units combine the best of two technologies: the advantages of clearly assigning a signal to the terminal when integrating existing instruments and wiring, and the significant simplification of electrical installations through the use of a bus interface for connection to the control system. This makes them the ideal and most cost-effective way to modify and upgrade process equipment.
Modular remote I/O systems transmit process data from safe or hazardous areas by connecting binary and analog sensors and actuators to the control system via a bus interface. A remote I/O system is the perfect solution when I/O units need to be installed close to remote devices. Reducing the amount of wiring not only saves cabling but also reduces time, money, and labor costs. Remote I/O units allow decentralized installation in hazardous areas, providing convenient monitoring and control of sensors and actuators from the control room.
The remote I/O unit can be used to connect 4-20 mA devices, such as water flow sensors, valve position sensors, pressure sensors, or temperature sensors. Thermocouples, resistance temperature sensors, mechanical contacts, and visual or audible alarms can also be connected.
Our remote I/O systems are compatible with the following network protocols:

The two systems offered by Peppers+Fuchs for use in Zone 1 or Zone 2, the FB Remote I/O System and the LB Remote I/O System, offer another key advantage: maintaining the topology of both systems at the process control level simplifies maintenance planning and execution.
- FB (Zone 1)

The FB remote I/O system is certified for installation in Zone 1, allowing it to be placed close to remote devices. It is housed in a protective enclosure. This modular signal conversion system provides an interface between industrial equipment and a control system located in a safe area, using Ex i or Ex e connections. The new green series has undergone a comprehensive set of inspections and tests and is offered in a completely redesigned design with sophisticated features.
- LB (Zone 2)

LB remote I/O systems are certified for installation in Zone 2 hazardous areas. This modular signal conversion system provides an interface between industrial equipment and a control system located in a safe area using Ex i or non-Ex connections. Both connection types can be used within a single system. The LB remote I/O system connects to a backplane. Solution Engineering Centers (SECs) can also provide pre-assembled systems in fully certified, custom enclosures.
